The Advertiser-Tribune

OLD FORT - Calvert kept pace at the top of the Midland Athletic League standings moving to 5-0 in league play and 8-4 overall, with a 25-12, 25-13, 25-20 win over Old Fort.

Calvert used a balanced attack in the win. Haley Felter and Amber Perry led with seven kills each. Kaleigh Hendrix, Meridith Lucius and Jordan Gase each had six.

"It's hard to try and scheme to stop our attack because we have such balance," Calvert coach Greg Hendrix said. "If one hitter is struggling, we have other options to pick her up."

Perry added five blocks and Felter had three. Hendrix dished out 20 assists. Lucius picked up seven digs defensively.

Kristin Bender lead Old Fort (2-10, 2-3) with 16 kills and four blocks. Shelby Bigler added seven digs.

Buckettes power off

NORTH ROBINSON - Maddie Williams registered a double-double despite not playing in the first game, and sophomore Emily Weithman nearly had a double-double of her own Thursday in Buckeye Central's 19-25, 25-9, 26-24, 25-19 North Central Conference win over Colonel Crawford.

Williams missed the first game because an illness the day before caused her to miss practice, but the junior pounded a team-high 16 kills after that and added 12 digs and three aces.

"She really stepped it up when she had to," Buckeye Central coach Bill Bonham said.

Weithman chipped in 20 assists, nine kills, three blocks and two aces for the Buckettes (13-2, 7-0 NCC), and freshman Jenna Delarber drilled nine kills and two blocks.

"They played ball tonight the way they're supposed to play ball," Bonham said of his younger players.

Meanwhile, Brooke Karl provided 21 digs and went 14 of 14 passing and committed only two errors on 37 serve receptions.

"She lets our offense work and run, and lets all the big players get the credit," Bonham said.
