Samuel G. Neifer, 86, of Republic, passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Republic, to Glen M. and Dortha R. (Swick) Neifer. He married Donna J. Searl Sept. 17, 1949, in Covington, Ky., and she survives in Republic.
Other survivors include a son, Craig (Teresa) Neifer of Republic; two daughters, Diana (James) Carter of Republic and Denise (David) Clouse of Gahanna; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce English of Port Clinton.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard English.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Republic; a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on Lake Erie for 53 years; a member of Seneca Lodge No. 790 F&AM, Republic; a member of Zenobia Shrine, Toledo; a 32nd Degree Mason, the Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo; a member of Tiffin Shrine Club, Tiffin Moose and VFW Post No. 2858; a 1945 graduate of Republic High School; a former mayor of Republic, serving for 20 years; served on the Republic town council for nine years; and also was a former Seneca County Sheriff Auxiliary deputy. He also worked for American Standard, Tiffin, for 38 years in the maintenance department, retiring in 1988.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Gary Hicks and Pastor Virginia Park officiating. Burial will follow at Farewell Retreat Cemetery, Republic.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home. Seneca Lodge No. 790 will conduct Masonic services at 7:45 p.m.
