program on religion, politics
John Bing, professor of political science at Heidelberg University, is to present a talk on "Religions and Politics in the Presidential Election and Other Arenas" at 11 a.m. today at Rickly Chapel, University Hall, on the Heidelberg University cmpus.
A free soup-and-salad luncheon will follow in the well of University Hall.
Easing dementia without drugs topic of local forum
Friedman Village at St. Francis is to host a free continuing education program 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the activity center, 143 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. Stein Hospice is to present the program on non-pharmacological interventions and care of the Alzheimer/dementia patient.

Center offers adult day care
FOSTORIA - Daybreak of Fostoria has a few openings for clients. The adult day care center in the lower level of Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria is a safe place for persons in the early to mid-stages of memory loss or Alzheimer's disease but still living at home. Loved ones who need supervision for part of the day can come to the center 8:30 a.m-2:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday or just one or two of those days.
A United Way agency, Daybreak is a social program that provides exercise, activities and outings for clients. The cost to attend is $30 per day, which includes lunch. Financial assistance is available for those who need it, as well as information about transportation options to and from the center.

Investigator to address
dangers of underage drinking
The public is invited to "Sober Truth" 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Central Ohio Educational Service Center, 928 W. Market St., Tiffin. The program stresses the dangers and consequences of underage drinking.
The presenter is Raymond Rodriguez, agent in charge with the Ohio Investigative Unit. Rodriguez is to give an overview of the laws and their penalties and share stories from other agents. Information booths, door prize drawings and light refreshments also are planned.

Allen Eiry Senior Center
to offer ribs, cheeseballs
Barbecue rib dinners by Grandma's Backyard BBQ are to be served at 5 p.m. Thursday at Allen Eiry Senior Center, 28 Hopewell Ave., Tiffin. The meal includes a half-slab of ribs, baked potato, green beans, a drink and dessert.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $13 at the door.
Also, center members are taking orders for cheeseballs through Nov. 15 for Thanksgiving and through Dec. 12 for Christmas. The flavors available are dried beef, blue cheese and onion, cheddar cheese and green onion. The cost is $5 each.

'Block party' planned
Thursday, the Chamber of Commerce is to host a block party of sorts. Five businesses will be having ribbon cuttings at the same time. Bunky's Bicycle Service, G&H Trading Co LLC, Home Savings & Loan's mortgage office, Phat Cakes & Cafe and Select Realty Group LLC are in the same block opposite The Ritz Theatre on South Washington Street. The street is to be closed for the event.
All five businesses are hosting open houses starting at 3:30 p.m. The Ritz Theatre is to pipe music into the street from 3:30-4:55. At 5 p.m., the business owners are to bring their ribbons out to the street and each is to cut their own ribbon in turn. The band Get in the Ark is to play after the ribbon cuttings.
Fashion show booked
GREEN SPRINGS - LA Hair Design is planning a Make-A-Wish Fashion Show to raise money to grant the wishes of children with life- threatening medical conditions. The event is set for 1-3 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Green Springs American Legion, 211 Smith St., Green Springs.
Proceeds from the show are to be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northwest Ohio.
Also, during October, the staff at LA Hair Design is to donate $1 of every service for this charity.
Barbecue to feature chicken, chops, courtesy Mohawk FFA
The Mohawk FFA is to host its annual fall barbecue 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday at Mohawk High School. Patrons can dine in or use a curbside service for carry out.
The meal includes half-chicken or two pork chops, cheesy potatoes, roll, applesauce, dessert and drink.
Also available is a combo meal that includes a quarter-chicken and one pork chop. The meal is $8 and must be preordered.

Family-oriented event
meant to support United Way
Super Hero "Fest-Of-All" is scheduled for noon-3 p.m. Saturday at Tiffin University's Heminger Center on Miami Street. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The fee for adults is $1 or a non-perishable food item.
"Super Hero" T-shirts and stickers are to be given to anyone who give $10 or more.
United Way agencies are to set up booths and provide activities. In addition to food concessions, the festivities include inflatable attractions, face painting, sporting activities, children's games, music, 50/50 raffle and a live remote radio broadcast. Proceeds benefit United Way.
A Super Hero costume contest is set for 1 p.m. Adults and children can take the hero theme a step farther by nominating special people in their lives for awards.
"Hero awards" are to be given in the categories of community action, youth vision, health, education and income awareness.

Historic Trust's latest tea
to supply flavors of autumn
"Frost on the Pumpkin" is the final Victorian-style tea of the year, presented by Tiffin Historic Trust, at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Area actor and playwright Ron Hill is to present the program.
The tea will be served in the parlor of Grammes-Brown House; guests are
to be served finger foods, fruits and desserts.
Guests may tour the renovated red brick home at 172 Jefferson St., Tiffin, before and after the program.

for annual Festival of Trees
The Community Hospice Care Festival of Trees and Holiday Gift Gallery is planned for Nov. 16 at Elizabeth Schaefer Gymnasium, 190 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. Now through Oct. 15, the agency is accepting donations, such as decorated trees, wreaths, gift baskets, gift certificates, service packages and more.

The Humane Society of Seneca County is gearing up for another garage sale 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 6 and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Seneca County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion.

Sight Center in Toledo area
to host 'Walk to See Change'
TOLEDO The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio is to host its fifth annual White Cane Walk 9 a.m.- noon Saturday at Flower Hospital, Sylvania. This event is to provide resources to help deliver services to those who are blind or visually impaired and to increase awareness of the Ohio White Cane Law.
Despite efforts to educate drivers, many do not realize they must yield the right-of-way to blind pedestrians on any public thoroughfare. The Sight Center is hopeful increased awareness will help to save lives.
White Cane Walk participants are to learn the basics of how to use a white cane and how to serve as a sighted guide to someone who is blind or visually impaired. Each participant will have an opportunity to use a white cane while walking blindfolded through a route around Flower Hospital property with the assistance of a sighted guide partner.
Additional hands-on activities, games, raffles items and demonst
Registration for the event is $15 per person or $30 for a family of four.
