Hamid Shariff's unassisted goal at the 54:13 mark broke a tie with Grove City College, and sent Heidelberg's men's soccer team to a 2-1 win Wednesday at Mayer Field.
Cole Tonti also scored an unassisted goal for the Student Princes, who improved to 5-4.
Grove City fell to 3-6. Its lone goal came when Seth Leow scored off a Daniel Adams assist in the 43rd minute.
Heidelberg goalkeeper Matthew Stevens made seven saves in the win. Heidelberg was outshot, 15-12.
Bevington passes milestone as 'Berg volleyball wins home opener
Marian Bevington made sure Heidelberg's home opener against Muskingum was one to remember.
The senior notched 13 kills, and the Student Princes got past the Muskies, 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 at Seiberling Gymnasium.
With her kills, Bevington became only the third player in Heidelberg history to reach 1,200 kills in her career.
HU (13-5, 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) received 13 kills from Amber Welfe, while Rachel Ferguson dished out 21 assists and Calvert graduate Alexa Frank added 19.
Tessa Benanzer added 27 digs, while Jamie Kluding had eight kills and nine digs.
Princes, Hiram go to scoreless tie
HIRAM - Heidelberg goalkeeper Julie Cross made nine saves, keeping Hiram off the board Tuesday.
But HU women's soccer team couldn't score either, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Christina Neal and Shannon Angel each had a shot on goal for the Student Princes, who moved to 1-6-1. Hiram stands at 3-5-2.
