Prep Volleyball Roundup: Milestones key Blue Devils in win over Cory-Rawson

CAREY - Sydney Wentling set up her team and Hanna Tong knocked back what Cory-Rawson hit Saturday, turning in big milestones in Carey's 23-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-12.

Wentling, a freshman, handed out 29 assists to give her a school-record 356 for the season.

Tong slammed 12 blocks as part of a triple-double for the Blue Devils, moving her to 401 in her career and into the 21st spot on the state's career list.

The senior also had 14 kills, 13 digs and nine aces for Carey (11-4).

Logan Johnson backed them with 15 digs and Taylor Fletcher came up with 13. Shelby Seifert smacked nine kills and four blocks, and Mackenzie Wentling served three aces.

Focused Rams sweep TC

Upper Sandusky coach Matthew McConnaughey worried his team might've been distracted playing at Columbian Saturday morning. His team however came out focused and swept the Tornadoes 25-15, 25-15, 25-20.

"The girls continue to improve," he said. "I was a bit worried before the match, as tonight is the homecoming dance. So I was afraid the girls would be distracted. However, the girls rose to the occasion and played their game today for a successful outcome."

Jessi Holly's 14 kills paced the Rams with Molly Owens chipped in seven. Allison Snyder dished out 33 assists. Jenna Holly led defensively with 13 digs.

Blue Jackets win thriller

NEW RIEGEL - Two of the region's better volleyball programs engaged in an epic duel Saturday in New Riegel. After five tough games, the host Blue Jackets stood victorious over Wynford 25-19, 16-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-13.

Three Blue Jackets had at least 13 kills, with Lauren Ladd leading the way with 24. Ladd also had five blocks and 16 digs. Taylor Arbogast finished with 17 kills and 24 digs. Kara Scherger had 13 kills and 30 digs.

Cassandra Acree set them up with 44 assists, while also picking up 19 digs.

Also for New Riegel (15-1), Brittany Gillig had 13 digs and Morgan Noftz chipped in 18 digs and seven assists.

Great day for St. Wendelin

FOSTORIA - St. Wendelin hosted the Northwest Ohio Catholic Schools Association Invitational Saturday, and the Mohawks weren't the most gracious of hosts, taking all three matches they competed in.

St. Wendelin started the day with a 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 win over Cardinal Stritch. Catrina Lang led with six kills while Colleen Fondessy added four. Meghan Reiter dished out 16 assists. Defensively, Becca Starn had 11 blocks and Allie Rutter had seven. Adrienne Emerine had 19 digs.

The Mohawks next took down Sandusky St. Mary 25-19, 25-9. Fondessy slammed nine kills in the match with Reiter delivering 10 assists. Starn had four blocks and Emerine led again with six digs.

St. Wendelin closed out the day by beating Mansfield St. Peter's 25-5, 25-15. Starn's four kills led the Mohawks (8-9).

Mixed day for Calvert

FOSTORIA - Calvert picked up a pair of wins, but lost its final match at the Northwest Ohio Catholic Schools Association Invitational Saturday at St. Wendelin.

The Senecas beat Sandusky St. Mary 30-28, 25-13, and Mansfield St. Peter's 25-7, 25-8. In their final match, the Senecas fell to Fremont St. Joe 15-25, 25-16, 25-17.

Meridith Lucius led Calvert (12-5) with 23 kills. Amber Perry added 22.

Mohawk wins 3

CALEDONIA - Mohawk made the most of its trip to the Beth Bayles Memorial at River Valley. The Warriors swept all three matches without losing a game, knocking off Fairbanks 25-13, 25-18, Jonathan Alder 25-13, 25-20 and River Valley 25-8, 25-13.

Sarah Parker paced Mohawk (15-2) with 27 kills and six blocks. Kasey Adelsperger chipped in 21 kills and eight blocks. Julie Adelsperger added 15 kills and 15 digs.

Ashley Parker had 67 assists. Lynsey Trusty led the team with 30 digs and Taylor McClain added seven.

Old Fort takes a tumble

CONVOY - Old Fort dropped three Saturday at the Convoy Crestview Lady Knight Invitational. The Stockaders fell to Norwalk St. Paul 25-11, 25-10, the host Knights 25-20, 25-13, and Fort Recovery 25-15, 25-21.

Kristin Bender led Old Fort with 24 kills, 11 digs and six blocks. Krista Ward dished out 27 assists and picked up eight digs.

Shelby Bigler gave the Stockaders 20 digs. Sammy Miller had four aces and nine digs.

Lakota catches Comets

GENOA - After narrowly dropping the day's first game, Lakota rallied to take the next three and beat Genoa 23-25, 25-20, 25-6, 25-21.

Three Raiders hit double figures in kills, led by Destiny Long-Meyer with 12. Rachel Feick had 11 and Katie Park chipped in 10.

Also for Lakota (6-9), Stephanie Miller had 27 digs while dishing out 21 assists. Alaina Bickford picked up 26 digs. Makayla Kiser also had a double-double with 16 assists and 15 digs.
