The American Red Cross of Hancock, Seneca and Wyandot counties is asking for donations of supplies to be used in holiday care packages. The care packages are to be sent to local service members who are deployed during the holiday season.
Supplies may be dropped off at the Hancock County Red Cross office in Findlay between now and Nov. 9.
The Red Cross Armed Forces Family Network is to meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 23 at the office to begin packing the boxes for shipment. Anyone interested in helping with the project may attend.
"The holidays are a tough time when a loved one isn't at home" said Executive Director Todd James. "It's hard on the service member and on their family. We want to send a little bit of home to those serving our country and let their families know how much we appreciate the sacrifice they are making. Collecting these items and putting together the boxes is the least we can do to say thanks."
Items being collected include toiletries, games, food, socks and many other items. A full list of the items needed is available at www.hancockredcross.org and at the Hancock County Red Cross office.
The Red Cross also is collecting names and addresses of service members from Hancock, Seneca and Wyandot counties and Fostoria who will be deployed over the holidays, so they can be sent a package.
Send the service member's name and full APO military address along with your contact information to, 125 Fair St., Findlay, OH 45840 or call (419) 422-9322 with the information.
Monetary donations also are being accepted to help cover the cost of shipping the packages.
Donations can be sent to Hancock County Red Cross Holiday Care Packages, 125 Fair St., Findlay, OH 45840.
