Salons to offer cut-a-thons

Salon Source 2000, 458 W. Market St., Tiffin, is to host the second annual Gayla Griffin Memorial Breast Cancer Cut-A-Thon, beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. Several local stylists are to be available to give haircuts in exchange for donations for Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment. No appointments are to be accepted; walk-ins only. T-shirts and hoodies are to be for sale, as well.

GREEN SPRINGS - LA Hair Design, 222 Smith St., Green Springs, is to participate in BigSexy's national Caring is Sexy Cut-A-Thon, to raise money for Look Good Feel Better; a national public service program that helps patients struggling with appearance-related challenges of cancer treatments.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10, LA Hair plans to donate the staff's time and talents to this cause.

To take part, call LA Hair Design at (419) 639-2010 or just walk in. The suggested donation is at least $10 per haircut.

FELC to host green energy tour

The Sisters of St. Francis will welcome visitors to their Franciscan Earth Literacy Center 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday for the Green Energy Ohio tour.

Director Mike Conner said tour participants will visit the passive solar/straw bale house known as Little Portion Green. They will also see the wind turbine and solar array set up to power the FELC.

'Kids' Market' planned in Fremont

FREMONT - The Ralph's Joy of Living Farmer's Market in Downtown Fremont is to host a Kids' Market in conjunction with the farmer's market 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Area youth will be gaining entrepreneurial skills while selling kid-crafted products such as handmade scarves, home decor, cards, magnets, laundry and decorative hand soap, coloring books, hair accessories, wooden guns, magic heat bags, jewelry and duct tape creations. Each person who makes a purchase from a kids' market vendor will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to a participating downtown Fremont business.

Depression screening offered

National Depression Screening Day is Oct. 11. With the Assistance of the Mental Health Board, Firelands Counseling and Recovers again is offering free depression screening for the community 2-6 p.m. in the Gillmor Center at Tiffin University.

Wine tasting benefit

CAREY - The Carey Chamber of Commerce is to have a wine tasting and networking event 4:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Moreno's Casual Dining, 109 W. Findlay St., Carey.

Local author Gene Logsdon is the featured guest. He is to speak about his friend and artist, the late Andrew Wyeth, whose work is featured on the walls of Moreno's.

Appetizers are to be provided, and wind vendor Heidelberg Distributing is to make samples available for donations to the Wyandot County Relay for Life.

Make-A-Wish Fashion Show

planned for Oct. 14; models wanted

GREEN SPRINGS - LA Hair Design is having a Make-A-Wish Fashion Show to raise money for local children to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The event is 1-3 p.m. Oct. 14 at Green Springs American Legion, 211 Smith St., Green Springs.

The salon plans to donate its proceeds from the show to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Northwest Ohio. Also, during October, the staff at LA Hair Design plans to give $1 of every service it performs. Models at the show are children from the area who want to help their peers grant the wishes of the children.

LA Hair Design is looking for more "little stars" between the ages of 4-6 to model in the fashion show.

Take a test drive, help fight cancer

Baumann Auto Group plans to donate $10 every time a new Chevrolet is taken for a test drive Saturday to help American Cancer Society fight breast cancer.

The offer is valid at three locations: Al Baumann Chevy Buick in Fremont, Baumann Auto Center in Port Clinton and Baumann Auto Group Genoa Chevy in Genoa.

The dealerships are to be open 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
