Melvin "Dick" R. Hossler, 83, of Tiffin, died at 11:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.
Melvin was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Tiffin, to James Guy and Doris Rebecca (Rathburn) Buckingham. He married Patricia Ann Huffman Feb. 9, 1946, in Tiffin.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; his eight children, Richard C. Hossler of Fostoria, Bonnie (Chris) Gerber of Zanesville, Doris Hossler of Tiffin, James (Phyllis) Hossler Sr. and Stephen (Cathy) Hossler, both of Fostoria, Brian (Brenda) Hossler of Kentucky, Michael Hossler of Perrysburg and Robert (Valerie) Hossler of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren, Kenneth, Kevin, Noah, Jordan, Mark, James Jr., Shanae, Ashley and Lauren Hossler, Chad and Kelli Chapman, Lisa Pauley, Amy Kirkpatrick and Craig Everett; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Hossler and Raymond Hossler, both of Fostoria, and Leroy Hossler of Tiffin; and two sisters, Shirley Platt of Tiffin and Beverly Mitchell of Fostoria.
Melvin retired from Basic Refractories and worked as an auto body tech. Melvin enjoyed working on tractors and trains and tending his garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, James and Eldon Hossler; and a sister, Lois Shoup.
His funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135. S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-1221.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be no burial at this time.
