New Riegel grabs hold of second in MAL
NEW RIEGEL - New Riegel broke a tie for second place with Calvert in the Midland Athletic League by beating the Senecas in three games, 25-21, 25-12, 25-13.
Lauren Ladd and Kara Scherger shared the team-high for New Riegel with 12 kills. Taylor Arbogast chipped in 10 kills. All three completed double-doubles by hitting double figures in digs. Scherger picked up 15, Arbogast 12 and Ladd 11.
Also for New Riegel (20-1, 9-1 MAL), Cassandra Acree dished out 27 assists and Morgan Noftz sent out nine. Alexis Kieffer had seven kills and Brittany Gillig picked up 11 digs.
For Calvert (13-7, 8-2), Meridith Lucius led with seven kills and 15 digs. Jordan Gase had four kills and 17 digs.
Mohawk clinches share
SYCAMORE - Mohawk clinched a share of the Midland Athletic League title by dropping Old Fort, 25-8, 25-14, 25-9. Mohawk (18-2, 10-0 MAL) holds a one-game lead over New Riegel with one game left in league play. Mohawk hosts North Baltimore Thursday while New Riegel travels to Old Fort.
In their match against the Stockaders, Kasey Adelsperger paced the Warriors with 13 kills. Julie Adelsperger and Sarah Parker each slammed eight while Aubrie Flood chipped in six. Ashley Parker handed out 35 assists.
On the defensive end, Lynsey Trusty led with 11 digs. Julie Adelsperger picked up nine and also served five aces.
Old Fort (3-18, 2-8) was led by Kristin Bender with five kills, seven digs and two blocks. Krista Ward had 10 assists and nine digs. Shelby Bigler led with 12 digs.
Mohawks cage Tigers
ATTICA - St. Wendelin topped Seneca East 25-17, 25-16, 25-14.
Colleen Fondessy slammed 12 kills to pace the Mohawks. Allie Rutter dished out 14 assists while Olivia Zimmerman served five aces.
Defensively for St. Wendelin (10-11, 3-7 MAL), Becca Starn had nine blocks. Georgia Kitchen led with 11 digs.
Kristin Bowerman's 13 kills topped Seneca East (6-14, 3-7 MAL). Rachel Bauman and Cameil Ruffing each added five kills. Samantha Miller had 14 assists.
BC inches closer to NCC crown
LUCAS - Buckeye Central is one win away from an outright North Central Conference title after sweeping Lucas, 25-14, 25-11, 25-14.
Sammi Marcum smashed 14 kills for the Buckettes, who improved to 18-2, 12-0 in the North Central Conference. Kendra Schultz aided the Buckettes' cause with 10 kills and three blocks, while Brooke Karl added 18 digs. Kilee Kimmel tossed up 16 assists to go along with three aces, while Emily Weithman added 18 assists and four aces.
Jenna Delarber and Natalie Dentinger added five kills each for BC. Sierra Hanes also had five kills for the Buckettes.
BC has a chance to wrap up the NCC Thursday, when it hosts Wynford. They Royals have one conference loss. Buckeye Central will be going for its fifth-consecutive league title, something the program has never accomplished.
Carey shuts down Tigers
NORTH BALTIMORE - Hannah Tong practically did it all for Carey Tuesday night as Carey thumped North Baltimore, 25-14, 25-10, 25-5.
Tong served seven aces, had seven digs, four blocks and 13 kills for the Blue Devils, who improved to 13-7, 7-3 Midland Athletic League.
Shelby Kin smashed six kills for Carey, while Sydney Wentling served three aces and dished out 25 assists. Logan Johnson served two aces and registered seven digs, while Monique Altvater added eight digs.
TC throttles Sandusky
SANDUSKY - Two Columbian players combined for 26 kills Tuesday in a 25-8, 25-6, 25-7 Northern Ohio League domination of Sandusky.
Haley Sendelbach slammed 16 kills for the Tornadoes (5-13, 2-7 NOL) and Sara Berecz belted 10.
St. Joe takes out H-L
FREMONT - Fremont St. Joe posted a four-game win Tuesday, despite a triple-double by one Hopewell-Loudon player and double-doubles by two others.
The Crimson Streaks won 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.
Courtney Burns did her best to keep that from happening, registering 15 kills, 15 digs, 10 assists, four block assists and two solo blocks for H-L (8-13, 5-5 MAL).
Logan Frank (2 aces) chipped in 20 digs, 10 kills and three assists, and Shelby Sauber tallied 18 assists, 10 digs and six kills.
Kassie Welly (2 assists) came up with 16 digs, Kassie Shaver (2 aces) had 15 digs and four kills, Tiana Opp lined two block assists and Bri Schinder belted two solo blocks and two kills.
Lakota holds on
BETTSVILLE - Lakota took its first two games against Bettsville convincingly, then edged out the Bobcats in the third for a 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 win.
Katie Park slammed 13 kills to led the Raiders. Destiny Long-Meyer added seven and Khilee Baltz had six. Stephanie Miller finished with a double-double, dishing out 21 assists to go along with 16 digs.
Also for Lakota (8-10, 5-5), Alaina Bickford had 17 digs and three aces. Aubrey Bickford had three aces.
Snyder sets milestone
UPPER SANDUSKY - Allison Snyder has re-written the record books at Upper Sandusky when it comes to setters. Tuesday night she picked up yet another milestone, picking up her 2,000 career assist as the Rams rolled Bucyrus 25-12, 25-5, 25-13. Snyder had 20 assists in the match, Emma Smith chipped in 14.
Taylor Graboski was on the receiving end of a good number of those assists, slamming 24 kills. Madison Bianchi led the defense with nine digs.
