SYCAMORE - One mission accomplished, one more ready to begin.
Mohawk completed an undefeated run through Midland Athletic League play with a 25-5, 25-9, 25-11 victory over North Baltimore.
"We've had some very good teams over the years who didn't accomplish winning the league, so I'm very proud of this group for getting it done," Mohawk coach Eric Hoover said. "Now we can turn our focus to the tournament."
Sarah Parker, Kasey Adelsperger and Aubrie Flood all shared the team-high for Mohawk (19-2, 11-0) with eight kills. Adelsperger also had four blocks, Ashley Parker added six to go with her 22 assists.
Blue Jackets drop Stockaders
OLD FORT - New Riegel dominated Old Fort 25-10, 25-9, 25-18 Thursday in Midland Athletic League play.
Kara Scherger's 12 kills, 17 digs and five aces led the onslaught for the Blue Jackets (21-1, 10-1 MAL).
Cassandra Acree handed out 25 assists, Lauren Ladd lined 14 kills and Taylor Arbogast smacked 11 kills. Morgan Noftz added six assists and Alexis Kieffer drilled four kills.
Kristin Bender's nine kills and seven digs led Old Fort, while Sammy Miller came up with 19 digs.
Krista Ward had nine assists and six digs, Sam Hartsel lined four kills and Shelby Bilger added four digs.
Truckers flatten TC
Norwalk overpowered Columbian 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 Thursday in Northern Ohio League play.
The loss dropped the Tornadoes (5-14) to 2-8 in the league.
Megan Murphy's eight kills and 10 digs led TC, and Sarah Berecz had nine kills and five digs against the Truckers.
Tong's record not enough for Carey
CAREY - Hanna Tong eclipsed the former mark for career kills with a big night, but it wasn't enough for Carey in a 25-10, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 loss Thursday to Fremont St. Joe.
Tong drilled 27 kills to give her 859 in her career, topping the mark of 837 set by Ashley Funk from 1994-97. She also smacked five blocks for the Blue Devils (13-8, 7-4 Midland Athletic League).
Shelby Kin crushed 11 kills and three blocks, Sydney Wentling had 39 assists and three aces, Logan Johnson added 22 digs, Makenzie Wentling came up with 13 digs and Lauren Wenner lined three blocks.
Senecas bounce back
KANSAS - Calvert apparently doesn't handle losing well. After suffering their first two Midland Atheltic League losses back-to-back, the Senecas opened up their match against Lakota by routing the first two games, then edging out the Raiders in the third for a 25-8, 25-9, 25-22 victory.
With the win Calvert (14-7, 9-2) takes third place in the Midland Athletic League.
Amber Perry led the way for Calvert with 10 kills. Meridith Lucius and Haley Felter each slammed six while Lindsay Bickley and Jordan Gase each chipped in four. Kaleigh Hendrix dished out 22 assists.
For Lakota (8-11, 5-6), Katie Park led with five kills. Stephanie Miller nearly posted a double-double with 10 assists and nine digs. Alaina Bickford led defensively with 20 digs while Khilee Baltz chipped in 11 digs to go with a pair of aces.
Chieftains gang up on SE
BASCOM - Three Hopewell-Loudon players turned in double-doubles and another nearly did so Thursday in a 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 Midland Athletic League win over Seneca East.
Courtney Burns and Shelby Sauber both hammered 11 kills, with Burns adding 22 assists and Sauber sending up 12 for the Chieftains (9-13, 6-5 MAL).
Kassie Shaver (2 aces) chipped in 10 kills and 10 digs, and Logan Frank had 10 digs and eight kills. Burns (2 solo blocks) also registered six aces and five digs.
Kassie Welly came up with 15 digs for H-L and Hannah Williams served three aces.
Mohawk turns away Bettsville
FOSTORIA - St. Wendelin dropped Midland Athletic League foe Bettsville 25-10, 25-10, 25-18 Thursday.
Allie Rutter drilled seven kills and handed out seven assists for the Mohawks (11-11, 4-7 MAL) and Meghan Reiter tossed up another 10 assists.
Colleen Fondessy and Olivia Zimmerman each belted six kills, with Fondessy adding eight digs and three blocks. Georgia Kitchen and Taylor Lucius each had eight digs and Adrienne Emerine chipped in seven.
