Prep Volleyball Roundup: Carey’s upset bid against Panthers falls short

CAREY - Going up against an 18-win team that came in ranked No. 17 in the state, Carey almost pulled an upset.

But the Blue Devils came up just short, falling to McComb, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13.

Carey fell to 13-9. The Panthers improved to 19-3.

Hannah Tong led the attack for Carey, accumulating 26 kills and three blocks. Shelby Kin added 10 kills.

Taylor Fletcher had 17 digs for the Blue Devils, with Adrienne Hackworth registering 15. Makenzie Wentling had 11 digs, four aces three blocks.

Sydney Wentling had 40 assists, three blocks, four aces.

Buckettes reach 20 wins

CALEDONIA - For the fourth consecutive year, Buckeye Central boasts a 20-win season. The Buckettes secured it with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-9 win at River Valley.

Sammi Marcum had a brilliant day, smashing 18 kills and adding nine digs and three aces. Maddie Williams lined 12 kills and picked up 12 digs, while Kendra Schultz added 10 kills and two blocks.

Kilee Kimmell tossed up 24 assists, four digs and two aces, while Emily Weithman had 19 assists, four aces and three kills.

Jenna Delarber smashed seven kills and had four blocks for the Buckettes, while Brooke Karl had 23 digs and Miranda Kintz nine.

Buckeye Central finished the regular season at 20-2.The Buckettes will play Mansfield St. Peter's Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Ontario sectional.
