SYCAMORE - Ken Ratliff, superintendent of Mohawk School District, said Mohawk is one of the highest performing districts in the area during a board of education meeting Monday. The state report card to be released today is to show Mohawk met 26 of 26 indicators and achieved an excellent rating.
The board heard updates on the Multiply Handicapped unit and the technology improvements.
Nov. 2 and 3, FFA students are to host a Bring Your Own Box collection of food at the old Sycamore school site. School groups from Wynford, Upper Sandusky, Carey and Sentinel have been invited to participate. Donations will go to the Sycamore Food Bank.
Roy Swartz, district treasurer, said the five-year forecast shows a slight reduction in 2013 real estate revenue, but over the course of the next five years an increase of 0.85 percent is anticipated due to property re-valuations. Income tax revenue is expected to grow 3.96 percent in the next five years. The district is not to receive funding from several federal programs. The state funding formula is set to chang, and Swartz cannot predict state funding for the next five years.
To manage costs, the district has cut two teaching positions, reduced two positions, made changes to the insurance plan and did not increase the base salary.
Swartz emphasized that although the district has a balanced budget, there is nothing available for major facility repairs.
The completed audit is available for review on the district's website and the five-year forecast will be available online today.
Also, the board:
Accepted donations from Amy Mead for the H.S. Cheerleading Fund and from Fillmore Pharmacy for the girls' soccer uniforms.
Approved the sixth grade trip to Camp Wilson, March 20-22.
Issued a two-year contract to Patsy Hill for 10 hours per week of custodial duties at the MCI building.
Adopted new and revised board policies. Policies may be reviewed on the district website.
The board is to meet Nov 12.
