You may need their help

October 19, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

Nov. 6, the citizens of Tiffin will be going to the voting booth to vote on many issues. There will be a tax initiative for a 0.25-percent city income tax increase. I, myself, will be supporting this additional tax, and I urge the citizens of Tiffin to do the same.

I had to use the Tiffin EMS on three different occasions, and I am really convinced that there isn't a better fire and rescue force anywhere around. In January 2011, I had to call 911 and was so impressed with Jeff Huber and the crew of men who responded to my emergency. The speed and response to my call was remarkable.

Once again Dec. 31, 2011, while at my cousin's house on Beechwood Drive, I had what I thought was acid reflux but it turned out to be a severe heart attack. I was by myself and I called 911. The response of the EMS was very fast.

Rob Bish was one of the men whom I recognized on the crew that day to assist me in what turned out to be a very threatening event. When the EMS squad got to me, they all went about doing what was necessary to get me stable and transport me to Mercy Tiffin Hospital, where my care continued. I can now say for certain that if it weren't for the EMS squad and fire department and their equipment, I would not be here writing this letter. These men really were remarkable.

Once again, in May, I had to call 911 and once again the response and swiftness was remarkable. As citizens of Tiffin, we are very fortunate to have this rescue service like we do and we can't risk losing any of these services. Just remember when you go to vote, your life, a member of your family or your neighbor's life may depend on our emergency services some day, and believe me, I know first hand how good a service we have. We can't risk losing any more fire/EMS personnel.

So please join with me and support the Tiffin tax initiative so we can keep all our fire and rescue squads and the No. 2 fire house on North Washington Street. Just remember, this additional tax will be staying here for the use of the citizens of Tiffin and not sent to Columbus or Washington, D.C. Just ask yourself one important question. What is a life worth? I owe my life to these terrific squads. Vote YES for the Tiffin tax initiative. Once again, thank you for saving my life. May God bless each and everyone of you.

Sincerely,

Sharon L. Haver,

Tiffin
