A Bascom man was killed as a result of a single-vehicle rollover accident in Jackson Township early Saturday morning.

Jacob Hohman, 20, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo by air ambulance and died from his injuries Saturday evening, according to a release from State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on TR 71A, just south of CR 1, about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the release.

It states Kevin Wertz, 20, of Tiffin, was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 southbound on CR 58 in Sandusky County, failed to yield for a stop sign at the county line and lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned onto its top.

Two other passengers were Rachel Pennington, 20, of McCutchenville, and Alexander Ratchen, 18, of Tiffin. Information about any injury to Pennington, Ratchen or Wertz was not available from State Highway Patrol Sunday.

Friends in another vehicle traveling with the vehicle that crashed picked up the crash victims and took them to a house in Bascom, Deputy Jeff Smith of Seneca County Sheriff's Office had said. Sheriff's office personnel then were sent to the house for a medical call early Saturday morning.

Speed, consumption of alcoholic beverages and lack of seatbelt use were believed to be factors, according to the State Highway Patrol release.

Personnel from Bascom EMS, Bascom Joint Fire District and Seneca County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene. The crash was under investigation Sunday.
