William T. Gillen, 85, of Upper Sandusky, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home.
He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Wyandot County, to George A. Gillen and Loretta A. (Weaver) Gillen Sr. He married Emma Jean Wyss Jan. 16, 1946, at St. Peters Parish, with the Rev. William J. McKeown officiating, and she passed away Feb. 1, 2008.
He is survived by three children, Patricia Jane Gillen of Columbus, Edward A. (Pam) Gillen of Noblesville, Ind., and William T. Gillen Jr. of Upper Sandusky; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George A. Gillen Jr. ans James P. Gillen; two sisters, Mary Hess and Fern Miller; one granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
Bill served in the United States Coast Guard, Merchant Marines during World War II and in the 1st Infantry Division in the US Army of Occupation in the European Theatre at the end of hostilities from 1946-1947.
His Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. J.R. Hagnady O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
