G. Royce Baker

G. Royce Baker, 85, of Attica, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2012, at Med Central, Mansfield, after a brief illness.

He was born July 17, 1927, in Sherwood, to Charles J. and Pearl E. (Schlesser) Baker. He married Naomi Suffecoof April 9, 1950, in Attica, and she preceded him in death March 6, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Tom) King of Willard; three sons, Terry (Debbie) Baker of Lexington, Norman (Lou) Baker of Fredericktown and Lonnie (Heidi) Baker of Bellville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Mr. Baker was a World War II Army veteran, a 1945 graduate of Sherwood High School, a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Attica, and a former Attica Lions Club member. He also was the former coach and commissioner of the Attica boy's baseball Pony League.

Royce was an operator for many years at CSX Transportation, Willard, retiring in 1990. He served three terms as the mayor of Attica, and one term as a Seneca County commissioner and the Attica-Venice Cemetery sexton.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 326 S. Main St., Attica, with Pastor Edward Hunker officiating. Burial will follow at Attica-Venice Cemetery, Attica. The Attica American Legion Post No. 260 will conduct military graveside services.

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
