Thomas A. "Charlie" Hakes, 59, of Fremont, died late Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Bethesda Care Center.
He was born Oct. 28, 1953, in Tiffin, to William and Ruth (Burns) Hakes. Charlie was a 1972 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont. He married Joan Durnell Aug. 26, 1996, at Grace Lutheran Church, and she preceded him in death in 2008.
Charlie was a machine operator at Kelsey Hayes for 35 years, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking, bicycling and golfing in his spare time. Charlie was an Ohio State fan and enjoyed all Cleveland sports.
Surviving are his mother, Ruth Hakes of Fremont; six siblings, David (Diana) Hakes, Judy (Robert) Dolweck, George Hakes, Cheryl Hakes, Susan (Tony Bascone) Hammer and Michael Hakes, all of Fremont; his dog, Sally; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 900 North St., Fremont, OH 43420, (419) 332-7391.
His funeral will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump officiating.
Memorial donations in Charlie's name may be made to the A.L.S. Foundation, Stein Hospice or Sandusky County Humane Society.
