The city will not be accepting donations for the swimming pool or summer park programs due to a clause in the union contracts, which stipulate if union employees are laid off no part-time or seasonal employees can be hired, said Mayor Aaron Montz.
Even if money was raised for these functions, the city could not hire the staff to run them legally, he said.
"We apologize for any misinformation out there that the city is being punitive for the tax not passing," Montz said. "We are merely following union contract language."
