Local musician Tony Paulus again is planning two annual benefits.
The fundraiser in memory of Casey Elchert and Marisa Paulus is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Tiffin Moose, N. SR 53. Half of the proceeds will go to the Casey Elchert Scholarship, which is awarded to one high school senior from Calvert and one from Columbian. The other half is to be divided for juvenile diabetes research and for the Marisa Paulus Foundation for children at risk.
"Whatever we bring in, we split 50/50," Paulus said. "There's going to be food from Fort Ball. We ask for a donation of $10 for a ticket."
The tickets are to be entered in a drawing for a big-screen television, computer, iPad and other prizes. Door prizes also are to be given out.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Fort Ball Pizza or by calling (419) 447-2121 or (419) 447-0144.
"We've got three bands this year. We're having Xpando band, Brazin' Bull and
Allie and the Rockers," Paulus said.
In addition, a new CD by Allie Bushold is to be available for purchase at the benefit.
The fifth annual Support the Troops concert at Tiffin Eagles is set for Nov. 21. Free food by TPC Food Service is to be served at 6 p.m. and the music starts around 7.
"We'll have a 50/50 drawing and all the money goes to the Seneca County Support the Troops Fund. That's meant to be for any active troops, whether they're regular or reserves. If they're active, they can get up to $500," Paulus said. "If somebody's in basic training, and a spouse wants to visit, the fund can pay for a plane ticket. It is not based on need. It's based on 'Thank you for serving.'"
The bands are The Late Show and Rusty Vinyl. It will be one of Rusty Vinyl's last two appearances. Their final show is New Year's Eve at the Eagles. Admission is by donation to the fund.
