Seneca hosted biggest tractor pull

November 15, 2012
By Bonnie Daniel - Correspondent , The Advertiser-Tribune

Seneca County Agricultural Society members learned from Calvin Staib that the Seneca County Fair had the largest tractor pull in the state this year. Ninety-five entrants participated.

Seneca County Commissioner Jeff Wagner was present to swear in new board member Denny Bowerman.

Staib discussed the Ohio Fair Managers Association bus trip to Nashville, New Orleans, the Texas State Fair and the Evansville casinos.

Members chose Staib as the delegate to the association's convention Jan. 3-6, with Kenny Frankart serving as the alternate. It was determined the board would pay the registration fee and one night's lodging plus meals sponsored by the OFMA or the Ohio Department of Agriculture for any board member attending.

After discussion, board members decided horse rental fees due Dec. 7 may be paid either for a full year or half year, with $1 per day late charge.

Secretary Phyllis Gerritsen said the Ohio Department of Agriculture is to conduct audits and the board is to update the fair constitution.

The board also:

Approved writing checks worth $147.95.

Heard accounts total $69,307 as of Oct. 31.

Moved to switch the fair's telephone service from AT&T to Bascom Mutual Telephone Co. when the contract ends.

Moved to charge an annual fee of $300 for the outside corral area.

Discussed placing an ATM machine in the education building with Joan Zimmerman, manager of the flea market.

Discussed moving the paper shed into the old dairy barn.

The agricultural society is to meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11.
