BLOOMVILLE - Resident Nancy Zellers was sworn in to serve on Bloomville Village Council after council members gave up their Thanksgiving eve to take care of business Wednesday evening.

Mayor Bob George and council selected Zellers to fill the vacancy on council since the death of Gary Keller in early October. She will serve until the end of 2013, when the position will be filled by an election for a four-year term. Council plans to honor the memory of Keller by planting a tree.

Also Wednesday, council heard former Bloomville police officer William Laugherty was convicted of theft of village property.

Council also heard:

Sharon Lutz donated a Christmas tree for Senior Center.

Missy Gurney expressed interest in conducting blood pressure screenings in December.

The police department is accepting applications for open positions.

Solicitor Tim Hoover attended public records training.

A contract signed for repairs and upgrade to village pool.

Village Christmas decorations have been put up.

A used utility vehicle has been offered for sale to public.

Lions Club is selling used tables for $20 each.

The next meeting of council is 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the village hall.
