A man was arrested in Walmart Saturday evening after allegedly using a knife to open merchandise packaging.

According to Tiffin Police Department, Timothy S. Stallings, 24, of Fostoria, was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony, for committing theft with a deadly weapon.

Officer Jake DeMonte said Stallings was trying to steal merchandise and used a kitchen knife to cut open packaging. The knife was in his sleeve, and he did not threaten anyone with it, DeMonte said.

DeMonte said Stallings ran back into the store after being stopped at the entrance, and a pursuit ensued.

"A customer actually tried to stop him," he said.

DeMonte said the customer and Stallings were fighting in a clothing department, and a loss prevention officer lay atop Stallings until police arrived. Stallings was arrested in the store, he said.

DeMonte said Stallings also was involved in an incident at J.C. Penney prior to his arrest at Walmart. Employees thought he was trying to steal a pair of shoes, he said.

Stallings was being held at Seneca County Jail Saturday.
