ATTICA - During Attica council's last meeting, members learned a snag with the Environmental Protection Agency had caused their plan for directing storm water into the wastewater system to not be approved, preventing them moving forward with the wastewater plant project. Village Administrator Greg Martin said the problem has been rectified and as soon as approval arrives, he will be able to have engineer Lynn Makeever sign his contract to proceed with the lagoon and wastewater system construction.
Martin said engineer Marvin Gnagy and Water Superintendent Gary Weis have completed the pilot study of the trihalomethane level in the water and submitted their findings to the EPA. Makeever has received approval for the plans for the carbon room at the water plant.
Martin said the village would be resubmitting a distribution optimization plan to the EPA and their aeration tower should be finished by May 2013.
Having difficulty locating a water leak for a homeowner, the village has purchased and installed a smart meter to check peak use to help identify the problem. The meter will be available to the community to assist with any other suspicious consumption.
Police Chief Keith Turner recognized an unidentified citizen who contacted the sheriff's department about a suspicious vehicle and when stopped by authorities, the occupants were found to be in possession of controlled substances.
He also noted receiving a donation to the department from Richard and Gene Miller and June Hacker after assisting during a funeral procession.
Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs reported $697,507.94 in all funds. She again presented the idea of choosing an alternate supplier for electricity, but council agreed to remain with AEP.

Moved to set/change the village employee work hour percentages to fund allocation.
Is to obtain two quotes for the Myers Park swimming pool handicap lift for grant applications for assistance in its purchase.
Discussed Christmas banner installation and heard the nativity scene would be placed downtown Dec. 9 following the children's Christmas party at the fairgrounds.
