Seneca East program canceled

ATTICA - The Christmas Madrigal, scheduled Saturday and Sunday at Seneca East High School, has been canceled.

'Nuncrackers' to be performed

FINDLAY - Fort Findlay Playhouse is to stage the Nunsense Christmas musical, "Nuncrackers." Performances are at 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Other performance dates are Dec. 6-9 and 13-16.

The Little Sisters of Hoboken, with the help of Father Virgil Manly Trott and some of Mount St. Helen's most talented students are set to present their first TV special, to be taped in the cable access studio in the convent basement.

The show encourages audience participation.

'Dark Knight' screening slated

The Salvation Army, through donations from MovieGeeksOnline.com, is to host a showing of "Dark Knight Rises" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, in advance of the Blu-ray DVD release of the movie Tuesday.

Seating is limited. The price of admission is at least one non-perishable food item for the food pantry and a snack item.

Toledo Symphony Orchestra

to present area Christmas show

CLYDE - The Toledo Symphony Orchestra is to perform its Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Clyde High School, 1015 Race St., Clyde.

'Journey' has international theme

VAN BUREN The University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble is to present "Santa's Journey" at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Van Buren High School auditorium, 217 S. Main St., Van Buren.

'Edwin Drood' tryouts

planned at University of Findlay

FINDLAY Auditions for "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" are set for 8 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday in room 209 in the Egner Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Findlay.

Production dates are Feb. 20-24. The script is on reserve at Shafer Library.

The performance incorporates 24-30 roles for men and women. Those who audition should prepare a 16-bar cut from an uptempo song. An accompanist will be provided. Performers are asked to dress for movement.

Crew members are needed for lights, sound, props, set construction and more.

Heidelberg Christmas

coming Dec. 9 to The Ritz Theatre

Heidelberg University's music school is to present a Heidelberg Christmas at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at The Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St.

The program is to be in two parts: the first section of holiday music is to feature the Concert Choir, University Community Chorus and the Chamber Winds.

The second section is to include arias and choruses from Handel's "Messiah."

General admission is $10, seniors are $8 and students are $6. Chorus members, Heidelberg students and faculty are to be admitted free.

'Light Up' open houses scheduled

FOSTORIA - Fostoria businesses and the Glass Heritage Museum are to host open houses 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 8 during the annual Light Up Fostoria celebration. A list of locations can be obtained at the Fostoria Area Visitors Bureau, 125 S. Main St., Fostoria.

A guided bus tour to view selected entries in the outdoor decorating contest is planned 5-7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9. Buses will depart from the LE&W Depot, 128 W. North St.

Fostoria Christmas show booked

FOSTORIA - The Fostoria Community Band will present a holiday concert at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Fostoria Intermediate Elementary School.

Some of the pieces that will be performed include "Yuletide Festival," "Home for Christmas," "The Chimes of Liberty March," "A Christmas Scrapbook" and "Irving Berlin's Songs for America."

The brass ensemble will be featured as they perform some holiday favorites.

Sounds of the season on tap

FINDLAY - The University of Findlay Orchestra is to perform "Almost Christmas" at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 in Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Conducted by Thomas Carey, the orchestra includes university students, staff members and musicians from Findlay and surrounding communities.

The program includes traditional Christmas music, including "Gesu Bambino." "Il Est Ne," selections from Handel's "Messiah" and "Ave Maria." The orchestra also is to play Corelli's "Concerto Grosso in D Major."
