Santa coming to Bettsville

BETTSVILLE - Bettsville Fire Chief Jim Maglosky received word from the North Pole that Santa is due to arrive in the village at 10 a.m. Dec. 15. He is to ride on a fire truck passing out treats to children.

Popcorn balls sold by the fire department may be ordered until Saturday. After that, they will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Police Chief Don Mason said his department is participating in the "Shop With a Cop" program for Christmas sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police. His department also has created a Facebook page for better communication with the public.

Village Administrator Jon Dabrunz said a water main break has been repaired and potholes have been filled.

The street paving project awarded to M&B Asphalt Co. Inc. with funds being provided by a $44,700 CDBG grant has been postponed until spring.

The meeting went into executive session for discussion of personnel issues.

In other business, council:

Heard the first reading of 2013 appropriations.

Approved the financial report.

Signed paperwork with Jackson Township for 2013 fire protection totaling $26,179 to be paid semi-annually.

Approved the purchase of new signage at the village complex for the police, water and sewer departments for $2,220.

Approved Rookstool Construction LLC of Huron to for repairs totaling $9,475.

Council is to meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8 as their regular meeting date is New Years.
