FOSTORIA - A number of events take place beginning this weekend in Fostoria:
* Elaine Myers is to conduct a book signing 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Bob Evan's Restaurant, 1111 N. Countyline. A resident of Cape Coral, Fla., she is to offer copies of her children's book, "The Adventures of Lizzy Beth at Grandma's Ranch."
This is Myers' second book in the Lizzy Beth children's series. Both books are to be available for purchase and signing. Lizzy has an adventure with wild dogs as she goes exploring near her grandmother's ranch with a horse named Nellie.
* Inspired by the stories of Dr. Seuss, the town of Fostoria is to be transformed into "Whoville" 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. The Chamber of Commerce, 125 S. Main St., is to hand out maps and goodie bags and dish up "Who" stew and puddding. More than 50 businesses are to have open house events and participate in a window decorating contest. Horse-drawn wagons are to give rides 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. downtown. Real reindeer are to be at the Fostoria Plaza noon-3 p.m.
Fostoria Community Arts Council is to be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with an exhibit of artwork by members. People can dress their dogs as Whoville reindeer for a costume contest. Registration is at 3:30 p.m. in the Park 'n' Shop lot. Judging is at 4:30 p.m. The winning owners are to receive cash prizes and gift cards.
Bus tours are to run 5-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to view entries in the "Light Up Fostoria" outdoor decorating contest. Buses are to depart from the LE&W Depot, 128 W. North St. For more information, visit www.fostoriaohio.org or call (419) 436-2282.
* Ray Dell of Fostoria has compiled an exhibit of his photographs for "History of Fostoria" at Wesley Memorial Gallery, 1200 Van Buren St. The exhibit is to open Sunday and continues through Feb. 1. Some vintage photos are paired with newer pictures of the same locations. Admission is free. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and other times by appointment.
