Calvin C. Waire, 86, of Union and formerly of Attica, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 9, 2012, at Grandview Medical Center, Dayton.
He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Attica, to Lester and Gladys (Moyer) Waire. He married Angeline M. Gaietto Oct. 25, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, and she preceded him in death Dec. 12, 2004.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. (Debbie) Waire of Richmond, Va.; son-in-law, David P. Evans of Clayton; sister, Bernice Mira of Florida; and three grandchildren, Catherine, Elizabeth and Michelle.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald J. Waire; daughter, Lou Ann Evans; and two brothers, Burdell "Les" Waire and Donald Waire.
Calvin was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Englewood, and was a co-owner of Toll House Tavern, Union, for years. He farmed and retired from American Standard after 35 years. He then moved to Union in 1988 where he was a member of the VFW. He also belonged to the American Legion, Bloomville. He enjoyed traveling the world and cruising the United States. Calvin was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II where he received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action in France March 15, 1945.
His Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin, with full military honors conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Friends may visit with the family 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424.
