Girls Basketball Roundup: Kirian, Ladd power New Riegel win over St. Wendelin

NEW RIEGEL - Two New Riegel players nearly matched St. Wendelin's offensive output and the Blue Jackets clamped down on defense in the second quarter Friday en route to a 46-26 Midland Athletic League win.

Taylor Kirian led the charge with 13 points for New Riegel, and Lauren Ladd backed her with 10 points.

Kara Scherger chipped in nine points, three steals and three assists for the Blue Jackets (6-1, 3-0 MAL). Taylor Arbogast added seven rebounds.

St. Wendelin trailed just 12-7 at the first stop, but was outscored 9-2 in the second period on the way to hitting only 10 of its 49 shots from the field.

Colleen Fondessy netted 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Mohawks (2-5, 0-3), but none of her teammates scored more than three points.

Carey clamps down on Lakota

KANSAS - Carey leaped out 17-1 in the first quarter and coasted from there Friday in a 51-25 Midland Athletic League romp over Lakota.Hanna Tong tossed in 16 points and Ali Rymer provided 10 points and 11 rebounds for the unbeaten Blue Devils (6-0, 3-0 MAL), who led 31-9 at halftime. Hannah Draper added six assists.

Kate Park scored seven points for the Raiders (1-6, 0-3) and Stephanie Miller and Sierra Ray both had six.

FHS fades after first quarter

FOSTORIA - Fostoria ran neck and neck with Woodmore in the first period, but the Redmen stumbled from there. After ending the first quarter clinging to a 13-12 lead, Woodmore limited the Redmen to only 12 more points in a 45-24 Northern Buckeye Conference win.

Kierra Settles and Erica Moore each topped FHS (0-7, 0-4 NBC) with six points.
