Norman Edlo Gibat , 83, of Fostoria passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 30, 1929, (the day after the stock market crash) in Fostoria to Effie Pearl (Notestine) Gibat and Gustaf Gibat. He married Mildred Joan Rochefort Oct. 30,1950. He married Kathleen Howard Oct. 16, 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Howard; his two sons, George Gustaf Gibat and Norman Edward Gibat; and two grandsons, Nathaniel and Gabriel Gibat.
He was the last of his siblings and parents still surviving.
Norman grew up in Fostoria, leaving when he joined the service where he spent six years of his life serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean era. Norman returned to Fostoria in 1973. He ran a printing business and later a computer business (Noguska Computers). He sponsored the www.fostoria.org website about Fostoria. He has written a number of books "Making Wine, Beer & Merry," "The Lore of Still Building," "Broken Ties" and many smaller publications. Some of these still are sold through Amazon. With the help of two of his cousins, he put out a giant family history book full of pictures and personal anecdotes. He was the originator of the "seek and find" type puzzle.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, is assisting the Gibat family with arrangements.
