James A. Miller, 83, of Tiffin, died at 11:27 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
James was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Tiffin, to Valerius and Alma (Powers) Miller. He married Phyllis Might June 18, 1951, at Tripler Armed Forces Chapel, Honolulu, Hawaii, and she preceded him in death July 6, 2008.
James is survived by four children, Michelle (Rick) Haddad of Maumee, Andrew (Teresa) Miller and Matthew Miller, both of Tiffin, and Daniel Miller of Toledo; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a brother, Richard (Yvonne) Miller of Tiffin.
James worked as a driver/salesman for Beatrice Foods Company and also worked for Tiffin City Schools as a custodian for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tiffin Lodge No. 77, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Shriners of Toledo, Tiffin Shrine Club, Seneca County Scottish Rite Association, was a past president and director of Tiffin Zenobia Hornets, a member of Kiwanis Club of Tiffin, American Legion Post No.169, was a past board of trustees member for Allen Eiry Senior Center and was a four-year United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. James was a 1947 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Heidelberg College.
James also was preceded in death by his parents.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Trinity United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Louis Dorsch officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin.
