Join researcher Tom Kashmer in observing frequent bird feeder visitors during bird feeder banding at 8 a.m. Jan. 5, 13, 19 and 27.
Meet at Sandusky County Park District, 1970 Countryside Place, Fremont, and travel to private property around the marshes of Sandusky Bay. In indoor comfort, participants can view a "window on wildlife" and learn about bird banding research while watching the process up close.

Hancock County
Raccoon Run Winter Sports Center is opening today and is to remain open through Wednesday, or until ground conditions are unsuitable. Normal hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The center offers cross-country ski equipment and snowshoes for all ages. Rentals fees are $7 per hour or $20 for a day and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The center is in Big Oaks Area Shelter 3 at Riverbend Recreation Area, 16618 TR 208, east of Findlay.
Children ages 3-6 with an adult companion are invited to the January Discovery Story at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Discovery Center, Oakwoods Nature Preserve.
This month's topic is screech owls. Other-age siblings are welcome. The program offers a story, activities and a craft.
Oakwoods is at 1400 Oakwoods Lane, off West Sandusky Street off CR 144 west of Findlay.
