Tiffin school board to meet

The Tiffin City Schools Board of Education is to have an organizational meeting and budget hearing at 5 p.m. Thursday on the third floor of the Administration Building, 244 S. Monroe St.

Spelling bee at St. Wendelin

FOSTORIA - St. Wendelin Catholic Schools are to host a local spelling bee Friday.

Grades 7 and 8 are to compete 8:15-9 a.m.

Grades 5 and 6 are to compete 12:30-1:30 p.m.

The top two winners of the seventh- and eighth-grade bee and the top two winners of the fifth- and sixth-grade bee will move onto the Seneca/Wyandot Area Blade Bee at Tiffin at the end of January.

FFA Farm Toy Show

JERRY CITY - The Elmwood High School FFA and Alumni FFA are to host the 20th annual Elmwood FFA Alumni Farm Toy show 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 6 at Elmwood School Community Center, 7650 Jerry City Road.

Admission is $1.50 for adults and children younger than 12 are free.

There will be free parking, a lunchstand and door prizes.

FFA hosts leadership event

Tiffin-Sentinel FFA hosted a state FFA leadership night Dec. 17 with 10 schools in attendance.

The evening began with leadership activities. Students then divided into four groups and attended individual leadership workshops with state FFA officers. The students worked on team building and leadership skills. After the breakout sessions the group came back together for a wrap-up session and food.

Organizers thank FFA alumni for providing and preparing food for the evening.

Small business help at the library

The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host "Free Assistance for your Business from SCORE" at 3 p.m. Jan. 23.

Participants will learn about SCORE mentoring and what SCORE can do to help small businesses in the Seneca County

community.

SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow and succeed nationwide.

Computer classes at T-SPL

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has announced the schedule for adult computer classes in February. Nine classes are to be offered. Classes are free, but space is limited and registration is necessary. Registration begins Thursday.

"Beginning Internet" will be offered 10-11:30 a.m. Feb. 6, and is designed for users who are just learning the Internet.

"Email" will be offered 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 7, and will show students the different sites that offer free e-mail accounts and walk them through setting up an account.

"Online Resources for Readers" will be offered 11 a.m.-noon Feb. 9. A trained Reader's Advisory Specialist will show students free resources for title and author read-alikes, genre lists and print resources that will help find the next great book.

"Find Your High School Sweetheart in the Seneca County Digital Library" is 2-3 p.m. Feb. 12. The class will take participants on a tour through the Seneca County Digital Library, which contains local high school yearbooks as well as history and genealogical resources covering Tiffin and Seneca County.

"Searching the Internet" will be 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. Students will learn how to search the Internet and formulate good searches using Google.

"Introduction to Publisher" will be 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 19. Students will learn the basics of the desktop publishing program, Microsoft Publisher 2007 and how to use basic tools such as text box, picture frame and templates while creating and saving a document.

"Introduction to Excel" will be 10-11:30 a.m. Feb. 20, and will teach the basics of the spreadsheet program Excel.

"All About Digital Photos" will be 6-8 p.m. Feb. 21. Students will learn how to save, transfer, organize, and share digital photos.

"Intermediate Excel" will be 10-11:30 a.m. Feb. 27, and will review the fundamentals of Excel, work with formulas, and become familiar with sorting and organizing data. It is important that students have a basic knowledge of Excel before taking this intermediate course.

Laptop meet-up at Clyde Public Library

CLYDE/GREEN SPRINGS - Clyde Public Library's Meet-Up is a gathering of people who have a laptop computer, who connect wirelessly to the internet and who want to improve their computer skills.

Meetings take place at 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.

Paranormal program at Clyde library

CLYDE/GREEN SPRINGS - The Ohio Spirit Searchers are to be at the Clyde Public Library 6-7 p.m. Jan. 9.

T.O.S.S. has helped people authenticate evidence of spirit or paranormal activity. T.O.S.S. will be answering questions and concerns that the public may have about paranormal activity, and they will discuss encounters that they have experienced.

Registration is not required for this free

program.

Fitness fair at library

CLYDE/GREEN SPRINGS - Are exercise and weight loss high on your list of New Year's resolutions? Visit Clyde Public Library 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 for the Fitness Fair.

The fair is to give attendees an opportunity to find out about area businesses that specialize in personal fitness through exercise, sports and play. Participants will have information available about their programs.

Businesses that will be putting on demonstrations include All About Dance from Huron, Audrey Young, Zumba instruction, Body Lines Health Club Karate, Fremont Cycle and Fitness Center, Fremont Recreation Center, Jazzercise Fremont Fitness Center, Sandusky County YMCA and the Korean Karate Academy from Bellevue.
