CLEVELAND - Kathleen Phillips was lighting up the scoreboard Wednesday in Cleveland. The Heidelberg junior poured in 30 points, but the help just wasn't there. Only six Student Princes scored in the game, and outside of Phillips, none tallied more than eight as Heidelberg dropped a non-conference contest to Case Western Reserve, 74-59.
After trailing by six at halftime, Heidelberg cut the lead to three at 43-40 five minutes into the second half. The Spartans, though, stretched things out with a 13-1 run. A 3-pointer from Allie Hawkins brought Heidelberg within nine with just over six minutes to play, but the Spartans responded by scoring the next 11 points to ice the game.
Eyv Iacono led Case Western Reserve (8-3) with 20 points. Berit Eppard added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Phillips connected on 11 of 22 shots, but the rest of the team was 10 of 38 (26.3 percent). Hawkins and Jordan Ickes each scored eight. Columbian graduate Megan Miller added seven points and eight rebounds. Paige Ricketts also pulled down eight boards.
Heidelberg drops to 5-7.
