Do you have a hobby that you thoroughly enjoy? Or have you become too busy, have too many obligations and "more productive" things to do? Did you know having fun and taking time to enjoy a hobby is actually good for your heart, mind and soul?
Research shows people who engage in activities they relish, who exercise their minds and bodies, are generally healthier than people who don't. Having a hobby results in:
Reducing stress levels.
Staying engaged and connected to other people.
Feeling improved self-worth and a greater sense of accomplishment.
Increasing attention spans and improving decision-making skills.
Lowering risk for depression.
Delaying the onset of certain chronic diseases and lessening symptoms of others.
Delaying the onset of dementia.
If you've been away from a hobby, and you find it's not as easy as it once was, maybe you need to check with your medical doctor. Do you need glasses, do you need to adjust the time of your diabetes medication or meals?
Perhaps you need to build up your physical activity little by little with your doctor's clearance.
If it doesn't feel right, maybe you should try doing something else. Your interests change; so can your hobbies!
