With the help of a recent $1,000 grant, McCutchenville Fire Department is to replace its more than 20-year-old fire engine.
McCutchenville Fire Chief BJ Ford said the grant, which was awarded to the fire department last week, is part of Heritage Cooperative and Land O'Lakes Foundation Team's "Giving Back to Our Communities" program. He said the money will be used to modify a 2008 International Ferarra Pumper-Tanker that was purchased in April.
"It's never been put into service before," he said. "We're just trying to get it ready."
Modifications to the truck include electrical inlet valves, scene lights, hose bed dividers and a trash line storage area. Storage modifications and a foam system still are needed.
"We have to do some additional things for it," Ford said.
The engine will join three other trucks that the volunteer-based fire department currently uses.
According to a release from Heritage Cooperative, a total of $8,250 was shared with 12 organizations in central Ohio for various projects.
