Edmund John Bartl, 78, of Bellevue, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at The Bellevue Hospital.
He was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Reed Township, to George Sr. and Katherine (Rospert) Bartl.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rose Mary (Reinhart) Bartl, whom he married June 17, 1977.
Ed retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1993, where he devoted 41 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1961 on the U.S.S. Boxer and Norton Sound. He was a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, Bellevue Eagles Aerie 490, VFW Post 1238, the American Legion in Attica and Monroeville, Clyde Moose and AMVETS.
He enjoyed socializing with his friends, riding his scooter, spending time with his beloved pets, Buddy, Bridget, Lucky, Harley and Scooter, also known as his kids, and going to various clubs and camping at Camp Bartl. Ed was a generous and giving man who enjoyed life to the fullest. His smile and funny stories will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his sisters, Mary Catherine Nickell of Clyde, Agnes Burgess of Hartford, Mich., and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Marcella Arndt, George Bartl Jr., Clementine Bartl, Anna Williams and Joe Bartl.
Friends will be received 2-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. His funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Paul Fahrbach officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at Reed Assumption Cemetery.
