ATTICA - Taylor Arbogast fueled New Riegel's runaway in the second quarter Thursday as the Blue Jackets dropped Midland Athletic League foe Seneca East 61-45.
The Blue Jackets ended the first quarter clinging to a 12-10 lead, but Arbogast netted 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second as New Riegel doubled up the Tigers 22-11 that period for a 34-21 advantage.
Kara Scherger added 14 points, four steals and three assists, Taylor Kirian had 13 points and nine rebounds and Lauren Ladd tallied 11 points and six boards. Abby Cassidy handed out four assists.
Hannah Hahler's 11 points and Emily Depinet's 17 rebounds keyed the Tigers. Shaina Adachi scored nine points.
With Carey's win over Calvert, New Riegel (13-2, 7-1 Midland Athletic League) holds a half-game lead in the MAL standings over both the Blue Devils and Senecas.
Chieftains too much for Old Fort
BASCOM - Hopewell-Loudon dominated the first half and put the game out of reach in the third quarter Thursday in a 71-32 Midland Athletic League win over Old Fort.
The Chieftains (10-7, 3-4 MAL) led 33-17 at the break before racing off 23-2 in the third period.
Cassandra Hohman tossed in 21 points and Courtney Burns and Aleta Daniel each netted nine.
Danielle Rohrbach hauled in 11 rebounds, Daniel dished five assists and Burns snared four steals.
Sammy Miller, Shelby Bilger and Sara Bell each scored eight points for the Stockaders (0-16, 0-7).
Mohawks get around Tigers
FOSTORIA - St. Wendelin battled past North Baltimore 16-12 in the final quarter Thursday to pull out a 50-48 Midland Athletic League win.
Colleen Fondessy scored 15 points to lead three Mohawks (11-7, 4-4 MAL) in double figures.
Heather Saalman added 11 points and Kamryn Troike netted 10. Fondessy and Troike also each grabbed seven rebounds, and Saalman snared five steals..
