FREMONT - Valentine's Day comes and goes, and many keep those special cards, notes or love letters hidden away for years in a drawer or a box. So begins the concept behind Fremont Community Theatre's production of A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters."

The play is to run at 8 p.m. March 8, 9,15 and 16 and 2 p.m. March 10 and 17.

The story concerns Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, childhood friends, both born to wealth. Before the age of emails, texts and Skyping, their lifelong series of handwritten correspondence starts with birthday thank-you notes and summer camp postcards.

Ben Archer (left) and Cyndi Hineline portray longtime friends in “Love Letters.”

Deemed "a good match" by their parents, they continue to exchange letters throughout boarding school and college, and on into their later years. Even after they move on with their lives, they remain close friends.

Ben Archer of Clyde is Andy, the ladder-climbing, letter-writing half of a relationship with Melissa, the troubled artist, played by Cyndi Hineline of Fremont. Both bring extensive stage experience to this unique production.

Directing is Michael P.J. Foos of Gibsonburg, an award-winning director and a veteran actor and artist. Laura Buchanan serves as assistant director.
