NEW RIEGEL - New Riegel council members met in special session Tuesday evening to conduct unfinished business after the last meeting.
After discussion, council approved the purchase of a 2012 demonstrator Ferris zero-turn mower from Charlie's Small Engine Repair for $5,500 with the trade-in of the village's John Deere mower. Council members determined to do their own mowing this summer instead of contracting it out. Financing is to be for a four-year period with a two-year warranty except for the belts.
Members heard the second reading of the resolution of necessity for a replacement levy for providing police protection and requesting the county auditor certify the amounts and rates.
They also passed an ordinance by emergency measure amending the pay of Councilman Lester Staib to be a volunteer councilman for 2013 and resuming the previously enacted pay in 2014.
Following an executive session at the last meeting, members awarded Sealed and Striped Co. the contract to paint five crosswalks, curbs and two blue handicap parking spaces for $650.
Council is to meet at 6:30 p.m. April 16.
