NEW WASHINGTON - Mikayla Stover scored twice in the first game and knocked in three runs in the second Saturday as Buckeye Central opened the year by sweeping Calvert 6-0 and 11-3.
Stover added a double and RBI in the opener for the Buckettes, then went 2 for 2 in the second game with another double and a run.
Maddie Fagan added two runs and a single in the first game for Buckeye Central. Winning pitcher Morgan Wurm helped her own cause with a single and RBI, and struck out six and scattered three hits and three walks.
Jordan Gase tripled for the Senecas. Gabby Bennett took the loss.
Calvert grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game, but the Buckettes pounded out 10 runs in the bottom of the frame and coasted away.
Christine Bibb picked up the win, fanning five and allowing just one walk and three hits.
Alexis Mills doubled for Buckeye Central, Kendra Schultz had a single, two runs and two RBIs and Hailey Hildebrand scored twice and singled.
Gase suffered the loss. Kate Brickner doubled and scored for Calvert.
Blue Jackets bounced in first two games
MILAN - Edison and Springfield each turned on the power Saturday as New Riegel fell twice on the first day of the season.
New Riegel jumped on top of Edison 4-0 in the top of the first, but Edison scored 10 runs in the second through fourth innings on the way to a 10-7 win.
In the second game, Springfield built a 4-0 lead by the end of third inning en route to an 11-2 victory.
Taylor Kirian took the loss in both games for the Blue Jackets.
At the plate, she went 2 for 4 with a double, run and RBI against Edison. Taylor Arbogast added a 2-for-3 effort, Morgan Noftz scored twice and doubled, Hailey Theis had a double and three RBIs and Kara Scherger tripled.
Edison's KayLee Fox went 3 for 4 with three runs and four RBIs off two homers to help Karyn Schmidt get the win.
Chelsea Imus added a 3-for-4 effort with three RBIs, two runs and a triple. Schmidt singled twice, Gabby Stoll had three runs, a triple and a single and Micaela Ostheimer drove in three runs and tripled.
Springfield broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the second inning in the second game, then added three in the third to take control.
Hannah Girlie went 3 for 3 with three runs, a triple and a double for Springfield. Libby Mathewson singled twice and scored twice, Brianna Espino scored twice and singled, Ashley Zappone chased in three runs and singled and Jacey Gray doubled. Bre Buck got the win.
Kirian singled twice for New Riegel and Schreger doubled.
