One rough inning was enough cost Calvert its game Friday against McComb. The Panthers scored seven in the first inning, and even though Calvert settled in after, the damage was done as McComb posted an 8-4 win.
Nicole Bickley rallied after the rough first to strike out seven.
At the plate for Calvert (1-4), Gabby Bennett had a pair of hits and scored twice. Bickley, Lindsey Bickley and Kate Brickner all picked up RBIs. Brickner and Nicole Bickley also scored runs.
Knapp's blast gets Rams going
UPPER SANDUSKY - Kelsi Knapp blasted her first home run of the season as part of a five-run first inning that got Upper Sandusky rolling towards an 11-1 win over Seneca East.
"Everyone contributed tonight," Upper Sandusky coach David Young said. "We played another excellent game tonight. The girls are really coming together and their confidence is building more and more every game."
Savannah Piecha and Brigitte Snow each tripled for the Rams. Justeen Searfoss and Kalene Johnson each had two hits on the day with Johnson scoring twice.
Allie Smith held the Tigers to just four hits picking up the win. Rachel Bauman, Karrigan Wurts, Kristen Bowerman and Cameil Ruffing had Seneca East's hits.
Blue Jackets power past Fostoria
FOSTORIA - The person at Fostoria responsible for chasing balls hit out of play got an extra workout in Friday thanks to New Riegel. The Blue Jackets hit three home runs in a 13-3 five-inning victory over the Redmen.
Morgan Noftz, Taylor Kirian and Kara Scherger each dialed long distance for the Blue Jackets. Kirian knocked home three on the day, and Scherger brought in a pair. Noftz and Kirian each scored three times.
Lauren Zoeller and Hailey Theis each had a pair of hits, scored and drove in a run. Sandra Acree had two hits and scored a pair. Leah Bouillon also crossed the plate twice.
Fostoria was led by Ashlyn Roberts who went 3 for 3 and stole two bases. Erica Moore had a hit, stole two bases and scored twice. Alexus Smith had an RBI.
Lakota wins Gangwer style
KANSAS - Lakota's Morgan Gangwer scattered six hits over seven innings while striking out nine Northwood batters, leading the Raiders to an 11-3 win over the Rangers.
Gangwer also added a base hit and RBI offensively to help her own cause. Stephanie Miller homered, scored twice and drove in two runs. Alaina Bickford, Carlee Conrad and Khilee Baltz all tripled for the Raiders. Bickford had a pair of RBIs while Conrad, Baltz and Nikkia Cooper each had one. Conrad scored three runs.
Hossler's hot day not enough
ARCADIA - Hopewell-Loudon's Racquel Hossler picked up three hits on the day, but Arcadia's Ashley Baird limited the rest of the team to only four, as the Redskins blanked the Chieftains 3-0.
Kelsey Coppus, C.J. Hohman, Lauren Trumpler and Abby Park picked up Hopewell-Loudon's other hits.
Coppus took the loss, but pitched effectively for H-L (1-2), scattering seven hits over six innings, while striking out three. Baird also provided her team with its offensive punch, adding a home run and two RBIs. Alisha Baird drove in the other Redskin run.
