ATTICA - Attica's farmers market dates have changed.
Councilman Jeff Painter told other council members Thursday night the markets are moving to the second Saturday monthly. The first one is to be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 13 downtown. The final market of the season is Oct. 12. A pumpkin carving event for kids is scheduled for Oct. 26.
Interested vendors are to contact Painter at (419) 426-7200 or the village office at (419) 426-9611. Vendors will not be charged a set-up fee and more information may be found on the village website, atticaohio.us.
Village Administrator Greg Martin reported the completion of an aeration system in the water tower by Gateway Tank. The project was finished Tuesday and improvements in the taste and odor of the water were noted.
Martin said the village emergency siren is working and pot holes are being filled as weather permits.
He also reported he sent a letter to the Norwalk Eagles organization regarding the rundown condition of the Attica Eagles building for which it is caretaker. Along with the letter declaring the village's zoning rules, he included pictures with a deadline for action to be taken.
Martin said notice will be included on utility bills that residents will be able to examine the consumer confidence report on the village website.
He also reported engineer Lyn Makeever is finishing surveying for a new wastewater system and is awaiting the results of soil borings to determine how deep the lagoon may be dug.
Police Chief Keith Turner said he is applying for a state grant by May 20 to acquire bulletproof vests for his department. He said officers are looking for offenders of texting and driving throughout the month.
Turner said he is reminding residents that dogs are to be leashed and tagged. Several reports about a loose dog have been made.
Seneca East Schools invited the police department to participate in picture taking for the school's yearbook. The boys baseball, girls softball and track teams included the village's new 2013 Ford Interceptor SUV cruiser in pictures, which may be viewed on the department's Facebook page and the village website.
Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs informed council there is $825,617.75 in all funds. That figure includes the 2013 first-half real estate taxes.
The meeting went into executive session to discuss land acquisition.

Discussed the use of credit cards for paying utility bills.
Heard a new lawn mower is being purchased for the cemetery.
Heard AEP has repaired several street lights but one more needs repairs.
Council is to meet next at 7:30 p.m. April 25.
