Heidelberg University likes to find unique ways to make the community a part of the Heidelberg mission.
In that spirit, the department of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement is to present "Uncorked: Sip. Savor. Support," a fundraiser for the Heidelberg Fund.
"Uncorked" is a wine tasting and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center. Cost per person is $50 and money will go to support student academic needs and co-curricular opportunities.
The auction, which is a live auction, opened April 13 and so far 22 bids and have raised $1,300, Ashley Helmstetter, director of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement, said.
More than 80 items were donated, and include a meet-and-greet with baseball Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley at Progressive Field, four days in New England, an autographed Eric Clapton electric guitar, gift baskets and gift certificates; and original artwork, services, classes and personalized gifts by Heidelberg alumni.
For a list of items or to bid, visit www.biddingforgood.com/Heidelberg.
For the wine tasting, 12 wines will be featured from red, white and dessert wines provided by Firelands of Sandusky. Heidelberg's ARAMARK is to provide food paired with the wine selection, Helmstetter said.
During the event, entertainment is to be provided by the Heidelberg Jazz Combo as well as a student woodwind trio. A cash bar will be provided for those who wish to purchase any of the wines at the event.
"What is unique about this fundraiser is that it is about higher education. It gives the community a taste of Heidelberg on a level of understanding. About 90 percent of the students at Heidelberg receive aid and this event will support that fund." Helmstetter said.
Registration for the event is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome, she said.
