NEW WASHINGTON - After scoring 23 runs in the first game of a doubleheader, it would be hard for any team to match that effort when it came back for the second game. Buckeye Central came close, though.
After scoring a 23-3 victory in Saturday's first game against Mansfield St. Peter's, the Buckettes followed up with a 22-5 triumph, upping their season mark to 6-7.
In the opener, Buckeye Central plated the 23 runs on just 10 hits. BC took advantage of 17 walks offered up by St. Peter's pitching. Maddie Boes had a pair of hits in the game, including a double, and drove in two runs in addition to scoring three. Kendra Schultz doubled and drove in a pair.
Also for the Buckettes, Maddie Fagan had three RBIs and three runs and Makayla Stover had two RBIs and two runs.
Miranda Moon and Hailey Hildebrand each had two RBIs, Ashlynne Lane scored three times and Sierra Hanes, Christine Bibb and Morgan Wurm each scored a pair.
Wurm picked up the win as she and Fagan combined to throw a one-hitter.
In game two, St. Peter's cut down on the walks by only allowing eight, but the Buckettes were swinging hot bats. That was especially true for Schultz, who went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, five RBIs and two runs. Fagan went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and three runs, Bibb had a pair of base hits, RBIs and runs, Alexis Mills drove in three, Lane had two RBIs and two runs scored and Moon scored four runs.
Bibb pitched BC to the win. She and Mikayla Stover combined on a three-hitter.
