SYCAMORE - Sycamore Village Council accepted a resolution Tuesday evening that gives their blessing to a loan application for $2.4 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the construction of a new water treatment facility.
Although the loan had already been applied for, authorization for council to officially request the loan application needed to be done to meet one of the preliminary requirements. The village will work with its contracted engineering firm to formulate the bidding process.
Village Administrator Charles Clark said work has been initiated on improvements at a railroad crossing at SR 67. A Republic resident died at that crossing in July 2012. Improvements are to include the replacement of the flashing lights and a new crossing gate.
Clark asked for and received permission from council to allow Police Chief Richard Blankenship to obtain prices on security cameras. A break-in at a park concession stand earlier this month and vandalism prompted the request. Council also voted to allow Clark to bring in an outside crew to paint the water tower at a price not to exceed $25,000.
Fire Chief Bryan Clouse updated council on discussions involving the possible merging of the Sycamore and McCutchenville volunteer fire and rescue. Talks are to continue at a meeting of the fire district planning committee in late May.

Authorized police and fire chiefs to apply for a grant from Wyandot County EMA for communications upgrade.
Authorized a resident to operate a food vendor truck at Sycamore Avenue and Seventh Street during garage sale days.
Village annual garage sale days May 10 and 11.
Village fireworks June 29 with rain date June 30.
Council is to meet at 7:30 p.m. May 14.
