SANDUSKY - Cousins Olivia and Morgan Smith each won a race and helped Calvert's girls capture two relays, while Calvert's boys got a big boost from the Boehler brothers Thursday at the Northwest Ohio Catholic Schools Association Meet.
Calvert's girls tied St. Wendelin for fifth in the team standings with 65 points each, while the Senecas captured third in the boys meet with 100 points, one point behind runner-up Sandusky St. Mary.
Ren Boehler won the 400 in 53.25 seconds for Calvert's boys and anchored the 4x400 to victory in 3:34.19.
Brother Shane Boehler joined him on the relay, as well as Tyler Long and Dan Reineke.
Ren Boehler also tied for second in the long jump (19-0).
Shane Boehler added seconds in the 100 (11.16) and the 200 (22.19) for the Senecas.
Other seconds for Calvert came from Austin Schultz in the 3,200 (10:28.12), Reineke in the 300 hurdles (44.28) and the 4x100 team of Tim Puesey, Long, Donovan Stith and Reineke.
St. Wendelin's boys ended seventh (7) on the strength of Jorden Nye's third in the 800 (2:10.57).
In the girls meet, Olivia Smith won the 800 in 2:35.12 and Morgan Smith took the 400 in 1:02.9 for the Senecas.
They joined Danielle Kontak and Marisa Horn to win the 4x800 (10:25.7) and 4x400 (4:20.22).
St. Wendelin also competed, with Ali Mowrey winning the shot (36-3 1/4).
Seconds for the Mohawks came from high jumper Becca Starn (4-8), Victoria Volpe in the 800 (2:38.66) and the 4x800 team of Jocelyn Reinhart, Volpe, Sara Goddard and Maddie Borer (11:03.2).
Tornadoes falter against Truckers
Both doubles teams were able to pick up wins but no Columbian tennis singles player could find victory as Norwalk toppled Columbian, 3-2.
In first doubles, Braden Kuhn and Nick Gaietto handled Norwalk's DJ Steffani and Grayson Conney 6-1, 6-2.
Columbian's Mason McCool and Brandon Berry wrapped up the other victory with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision over Truckers Collin Bickerstaff and Kyle Long in second doubles.
In first singles, John Obringer fell 6-0, 6-0 to Norwalk's Trevor Bowers. Hunter Stark lost by the same score against Harry Love while Eline Widman took a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Norwalk's Reid Shaffer.
