Charlene Mary Steyer, 81, of rural New Riegel, died Mother's Day Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born All Saints Day Nov. 1, 1931, in rural Upper Sandusky, to Carl and Helen (Orians) Rall. She married Donald G. Steyer Aug. 11, 1956, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, and he survives.
Survivors also include three daughters, Marjorie (Jim) Steinmetz Jr. and Julie (Curtis) Heidler, both of Tiffin, and Jane (Jason) Trausch of Carey; four sons, John (Lisa), Ed and David Steyer, all of New Riegel, and Dennis (Regina) Steyer of Sycamore; 14 grandchildren, Sarah (Adam) Kleinfelter, Anthony and Stephen Steinmetz, Christina (Troy) Breidenbach, Lee (Kelly) Cleland, Nicole Goshe, Becka and Allysa Heidler, Katie, Megan, Jackie and Logan Trausch and Kaci and Lukas Steyer; nine great-grandchildren, Brenten and Bradley Kleinfelter, Bailey and Brook Breidenbach, Kennedy and Briella Cleland and Gracie, Reese and Marlie Goshe; three stepgrandchildren, Nathan (Shannon) Beaston, Shay Miller and Ali Stauffer; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Kain, Jaylin, Kelan and Trasyn Beaston; a sister, Rita (Bill) Bricely of Arizona; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Pearl Nye, Leon (Janice) Steyer and Norman (Pat) Steyer; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; oldest daughter, Catherine, who died at age 14 in 1972 of juvenile diabetes; brother, Bernard Rall; and sister, Janet (Lawrence) Logsdon.
Charlene lived a long, good life and was a member of New Riegel All Saints Catholic Church, All Saints Rosary Altar Society and New Riegel Right to Life, of which she was past president. She worked briefly, before she got married, as a telephone operator in Upper Sandusky and also babysat. She loved God and enjoyed being with her family, reminiscing old times, taking pictures of nature and her family with her digital camera, cooking, gardening, bird watching and played piano wonderfully by ear.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, New Riegel. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 3:30 p.m.
