The Columbian thrower went 45-9 1/4 in the shot put, finishing fifth on the first day of the Division I District Track Meet at Frost-Kalnow Stadium. The top four finishers in each event advance to next week's regionals.
The Tornado boys were the only local squad to participate. Finals for four boys events were held Wednesday, with the rest of the finals being held Friday.
Columbian's 4x800 team of Tyler Mesnard, Adam Forrest, Martin Baller and Nate Wegman ran eighth in 9:19.28.
Fostoria's Cannon advances
FOSTORIA - Fostoria long jumper Deandre Cannon punched his ticket for the regional track meet Wednesday at the Division II district meet.
Cannon jumped 19-11 to take fourth in the event, and advance to next week's regional. He was the only local qualifier on the first day of the meet.
Upper Sandusky's top finish came in the 4x800, with Dominic Solis, Trent Howard, Garrett Miller and Luke Miller finishing sixth in 8:34.39.
Gaietto ousted from district
BOWLING GREEN - Columbian junior Nick Gaietto's tennis season came to end Wednesday in the first day of the Division I district tournament.
Gaietto fell 6-0, 6-0 to returning state-qualifier Dugan Delp of Toledo Central Catholic.
Warriors trip up Tigers
NORTH BALTIMORE - Allison Price tripled and drove in three runs and three teammates each belted two hits Wednesday in Mohawk's 7-6 Midland Athletic League win over North Baltimore.
Hannah Kieffer added two RBIs off a double and single for the Warriors, Makenzie Sowers scored twice and singled and Cambria Kohlenberg singled twice.
Brooke Weinandy added two runs and a single to help Julie Adelsperger get the win. Adelsperger fanned seven in five innings.
Cheyenne Hernandez's three RBIs and double led the Tigers.
Kelsey Gazarek had two runs, a double and single, Megan Wright scored twice and doubled, Haleigh Fleck doubled and Ricci Emahiser chased in two runs with two singles.
Kelcie Bean suffered the loss.
The game came one day after Mohawk beat North Baltimore 10-2 in a district semifinal game.
