COLUMBUS - House Bill 141, legislation creating Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court, was passed today by the Ohio House of Representatives by a vote of 90-1.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Rex Damschroder, R-Fremont, consolidates the two municipal courts with an election for judge of the newly created court to be held in November. The physical locations of both courts would remain, with the elected judge traveling between the locations.
"HB 141 took a huge step towards becoming law today," Damschroder stated. "This bill was introduced because of the support of the mayors and city councils of both cities. I applaud their efforts to save taxpayer dollars with this consolidation.
HB 141 passed the House Judiciary Committee last week by unanimous vote. Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz and Fostoria Mayor Eric Keckler testified in support of the bill in committee. The bill will be referred to a Senate committee for consideration next week.
