Dora M. Corthell, 98, of Green Springs, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born March 5, 1915, in Seneca County, the daughter of Ray W. and Grace M. Runion. Dora married William Gilbert Corthell Jan. 22, 1934, in Tiffin, and he preceded her in death.
Dora retired from Green Springs School as head cook of the cafeteria after 25 years of service. She was a member of Green Springs United Methodist Church. Dora was known for her homemade bread and Christmas cookies which she shared with her family at holiday time. She enjoyed bowling, traveling to Amish country and Florida.
Dora is survived by her two daughters, Donna Mackling of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Shirley Scheerer of Tiffin; daughter-in-law, Janet Corthell of Green Springs; eight grandchildren, Mike Brunthaver of Tiffin, Robert D. Brunthaver of Seattle, Wash., Jayne Grine of Fremont, Sue Walters of Tiffin, Scott, Greg and Gary Corthell, all of Green Springs, and Jeff Corthell of O'Fallon, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Dora was the last living child of Ray and Grace Runion. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Gilbert Corthell; son, Bill Corthell; two sons-in-law, James Scheerer and George Mackling; five sisters, Mazel King, Lucinda Claybaugh, Betty Straub, Anna Seiger and Margie Grover; and four brothers, Alfred, Sylvester, Bruce and Gene Runion.
The family wishes to thank Autumnwood caregivers and staff for their great care and friendship. Also, thanks to Community Hospice caregivers and to Dr. Garlapati for his years of care.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 N. Broadway St., Green Springs.
Her funeral is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Christine Tobergte officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Seneca County.
